Jurox (UK) Limited, manufacturer of the anaesthetic Alfaxan, has bolstered its field-based team of technical advisors by recruiting three new veterinary surgeons.

The company has appointed Dr Mark Leddy BVSc MBA MRCVS, Dr Susan Edwards BSc(Hons) BVMS MRCVS and Dr Lizzie Barker BVetMed(Hons) CertAVP (VA) PgCert MRCVS to make up Jurox’s team of eight field-based veterinary surgeons, all of whom are trained by veterinary anaesthesia diplomats, are members of the Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists (AVA) and many of which work as locums in practice.

Dr Mark Leddy joins Jurox as regional veterinary business manager in the southern region.  After graduating with distinction from Liverpool Vet School in 1993, following several years in companion animal and equine practice he entered industry as a veterinary advisor.  A thirteen-year career in industry culminated in him leaving his position as a marketing manager at an animal health company in 2011 to take up a Masters course at Warwick Business School.  He was awarded a Masters in Business Administration with distinction in July 2016 and won the School’s student of the year award.  He then joined YourVets as the clinical director of its flagship 24-hour hub in Coventry.  After three years he left to focus on anaesthesia by joining Jurox in April 2016.

Dr Lizzie Barker graduated with honours from the Royal Veterinary College in 2009 and spent time in both small animal and equine practice before completing an internship at the Liphook Equine Hospital in Hampshire.  During this time Lizzie developed a strong interest in all aspects of anaesthesia and analgesia and undertook much of the general anaesthesia within the hospital.  Lizzie moved back to South Wales to work in general practice before moving to Jurox as technical advisor in the south west region. Lizzie has successfully completed her RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Veterinary Anaesthesia and enjoys visiting practices to help to support their anaesthesia service and to train fellow vets and nurses in all aspects of veterinary anaesthesia.

Finally, Dr Susan Edwards qualified from Glasgow Vet School in 1999 and proceeded to spend five years in mixed practice in Herefordshire. In 2004 she took the step into small animal practice, became a veterinary nurse assessor and progressed to clinical director of a four vet clinic in Northamptonshire. In 2009 she became a locum veterinary surgeon gaining experience in a wide variety of clinics.  Spring 2016 saw her join Jurox as technical advisor for the West Midlands, where she has been able to further her interest in anaesthesia.

They join an established team of technical advisors who include Dr Michael Unsworth, Dr Jayne Clark, Dr Lee Strapp and Dr Karen Heskin; taking the team of field based Jurox vets to eight strong.

Dr Rich Irvine BVSc MRCVS, veterinary services manager at Jurox (UK) Limited, says: “We are delighted to welcome Mark, Lizzie and Susan to our growing team of field-based vets.  Our team is passionate about passing on its extensive expertise to help support veterinary practices in improving their knowledge and understanding of anaesthesia in order to benefit both themselves and their patients.”
