In the face of an ever-increasing pace of change, both within the profession and in wider society, veterinary professionals working in or aspiring to leadership roles are urged not to miss this year’s VMG Congress.  The event, billed as ‘two days of inspiration, education and exhilaration’, will tackle the challenging issues facing veterinary businesses today in a dedicated ‘Your Future’ stream. Examples of the hot topics to be discussed include the attraction and retention ‘Generation Z’ team members and the successful introduction and management of new business and working practices.

Members of Generation Z were born between 1997 and 2012 with research showing them to be resourceful, independent, valuing diversity and placing a priority on well-being and mental health.  In his session, Jack Kennedy, UK economist from Indeed Hiring Lab, will explore how the emergence of Generation Z is affecting candidate behaviour and suggest strategies that veterinary employers can take to attract and retain the talent they need.

VMG Senior Vice President Richard Casey will explore the sands shifting beneath the veterinary world and signpost some of the ‘mega’ global trends still to break over it.  He will go on to explore how veterinary businesses can plan for change and explain why teams are likely to respond as they do.  He will then show how natural human reluctance to embrace change can be mitigated by effective leadership and the instigation of ‘collective change’.

VMG Congress’ closing keynote speaker Dr Leanne Armitage is recognised for her work to inspire people to be the best version of themselves.  A medical doctor, she works to create greater diversity in the medical profession and is co-founder of the Armitage Foundation, a charity which works to increase diversity in UK medical schools. She was awarded the 2018 UK Queen’s Young Leaders Award and has been recognised by the Black Cultural Archives as one of 40 black leaders from across the UK, who are positively impacting the future of British society.

Commenting on the VMG Congress programme, VMG Director Liz Somerville said: “The pace of change today gives veterinary leaders no option other than to be even more ambitious in evolving their businesses and working practices.  Our Your Future stream will focus delegates’ eyes firmly on what lies ahead for veterinary businesses and give them practical ideas and approaches to help them lead with confidence and courage as they prepare their teams for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.”

VMG Congress takes place at the 8-9 June 2023, Crowne Plaza Stratford upon Avon.  For full details of the programme and ticket pricing, visit: https://vmgevents.co.uk/
