Linnaeus has performed strongly at the RCVS Knowledge Awards, including a champion award for one of its leading referral centres.

The RCVS Knowledge Awards celebrate the achievements across the profession for activities that contribute to advancing the quality of veterinary care.

Linnaeus-owned Paragon Veterinary Referrals in Wakefield was presented with a coveted 2023 Antimicrobial Stewardship Champion accolade.

Its work focused on preserving critically important antimicrobials through the establishment of an Antimicrobial Stewardship Team, the development of guidelines and in-house CPD.

Meanwhile, Linnaeus enjoyed further success with two 2023 Quality Improvement Highly Commended awards.

Fiona Thomson from Pets’n’Vets’ Roundhouse Hospital in Glasgow created a process and outcome audit to assess clinical outcomes and client experience in relation to Laparoscopic Ovariectomy. This was a successful baseline audit.

Roundhouse submitted two applications. The first application focused on improving infection control by looking at the frequency of punctures of its surgical gloves and changing its gloves to ones that punctured less.

Its second application was its TPLO + Quality Improvement project, the third year of its project and was a retrospective audit to assess adaptations since its 2022 applications. There were a number of improvements from its 2022 audit.

Professor Séverine Tasker, chief medical officer at Linnaeus, said: “Congratulations to all those who represented Linnaeus. Achieving recognition in the RCVS Knowledge awards is testament to their endeavours to improve the quality of veterinary care.”
