Having already achieved a reputation for delivering the best possible care for its patients, a local veterinary hospital is now committed to providing the same attention to the patients’ owners by running special staff lectures on client care.
Jennifer Lane and Oscar
Davies Veterinary Specialists (DVS), based at Higham Gobion on the Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire borders is running two lectures on 26th April and 24th May 2011. They are predominantly for its veterinary nurses and the practice’s front of house staff but are also open to members of other veterinary practices and are free of charge.
Jennifer Lane, from Westoning in Bedfordshire, was unaware that she has a leading-edge vet hospital on her doorstep until her Yorkshire terrier Oscar was taken seriously ill and was referred to DVS as an emergency last summer. Now she can’t sing enough praise for the kindness and expertise of the staff there.
Jennifer explains: “Oscar suddenly lost his sight and could barely walk but no one knew what was wrong with him. In the same way that a GP would refer a patient to a consultant in human medicine, my local vet referred Oscar to DVS. Neurologist Christian Falzone established the diagnosis within a few minutes and has cared for us all the way through with such professionalism and compassion.”
Oscar was diagnosed with eosinophillic meningoencephalitis, which is a relatively rare condition in which the brain is inflamed and swells. Treatment to reduce the inflammation restored his vision and returned him to good health.
“Words can’t express how grateful I am to all the staff at DVS for saving my dog,” continued Jennifer. “Not only were they were fantastic with Oscar but they were brilliant with me too. I was in shock and had a sudden panic attack when Oscar was first admitted, as I thought I was going to lose him. I was looked after by a lovely veterinary nurse who gave me tea and biscuits and insisted on staying with me for over an hour until I had regained my composure!”
Oscar has made a good recovery and is back on form chasing the ducks round the duck pond! He returns to DVS every three to five weeks for a check-up and for his medication to be monitored.
Liz Branscombe, training manager at DVS said: “Good client communication is so important to provide the best possible support and reassurance for pet owners during difficult times. Regular lectures and training sessions help to keep all our staff fresh and up-to-speed with the latest practice in client care.”
The lectures will be presented by Sarah Noyce of Inspyr, an ex-Senior veterinary nurse who specialises in enhancing the communication and business skills of those working in the veterinary profession.
