Merck Animal Health (MSD Animal Health outside the USA and Canada), formerly known as Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, used eye-catching exhibits and well-attended seminars at the recent XVII World Veterinary Poultry Association (WVPA) Congress in Cancun, Mexico, and the XXII Latin-American Poultry Congress (LAPC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to roll out the new company name and demonstrate its commitment to providing science-driven, innovative solutions. As a Diamond Sponsor at WVPA, Merck Animal Health had the opportunity to host a two-hour symposium on PROTECTOTYPE™, a strategic, innovative approach to Infectious Bronchitis (IB) control that is quickly gaining recognition among leading poultry scientists and veterinarians. According to this concept, combining broad-spectrum IB vaccines allows protection against virtually any IB virus of poultry, including new variants. More than 400 poultry veterinarians attended the event, which featured presentations by three world-renowned IB specialists: Sjaak De Wit, DVM, PhD, of the Animal Health Service in Deventer, the Netherlands, Aris Malo, DVM, Global Technical Director for poultry at Merck Animal Health, The Netherlands, and Mark Jackwood, DVM, PhD, of the University of Georgia, Athens GA, USA, plus two veterinary practitioners: Mário Sérgio Assayag Jr., M.V., D.Sc. of Brasil Foods, Santa Catarina, Brazil, and Brice Robineau, DVM of Finalab, Châteaubourg, France. The symposium’s focus on IB carried over to the Merck Animal Health exhibit, where attendees had the opportunity to learn about its live and inactivated IB vaccines and PROTECTOTYPE. At LAPC, Merck Animal Health hosted an intensive three-hour workshop on broiler intestinal health, which featured presentations from five specialists at the company. The sessions focused on new ways to manage coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis while improving gut health, feed conversion and bird performance. Merck Animal Health, a Gold Sponsor of the congress, also featured an attractive exhibit highlighting its new visual identity, products from its intestinal health product line, as well as other innovative products from the company’s extensive poultry portfolio.
