A new canine total hip replacement service has opened up in the south of England, operating from two surgies in Staines, Middlesex and Camberley, Surrey. Ian Simpson BVSc CertSAO MRCVS, "We aim to offer total cemented canine hip replacements in the South of England at realistic cost and utilising only the very best surgical implants and techniques, acquired through the selection of a system which has been developed over many years in teaching hospitals in the United States. We are a new team of highly dedicated and experienced veterinary surgeons and nurses with an interest in orthopaedic surgery and more specifically hip replacement. We have completed formal training in utilisation of the Bio-Medtrix cemented hip system, have attended many refresher courses related to the system and keep a full stock of implants. We operate in one of two veterinary surgeries either in Staines, Middlesex, or Camberley, Surrey and have had a high success rate with our total hips. Many times we are presented with radiographs of awful hips only to find that the patient is minimally lame or has responded well to non-steroidal, or neutraceutical therapy, or a combination. In these cases, total hip replacement is rarely indicated. It is indicated in any patient between 1 and 11yrs old, with hindlimb lameness traceable to the hip joint, which is refractory to other treatments, and has no concurrent skin infection, or gingivitis." For information or to book a preliminary appointment please call: 01276 21225 (Camberley) 01784 452048 (Staines) or email: [email protected] Their website, which has details of the hip replacement team, procedure and a list of FAQs, can be reached by clicking here
