The new clinical director at a Nottinghamshire veterinary hospital is looking forward to extending and expanding the expert services it delivers.

Dave Ellson has been appointed to the senior role at Wildbore Vetstop in Worksop, which is owned by Linnaeus

He said he was delighted to have been handed the responsibility to drive the practice forward and is keen to make his mark.

Dave explained: “I first moved to Wildbore Vetstop in 2011 and love the practice, so I am delighted to now become clinical director.

“Management of the practice and upholding high clinical standards and patient care is my ultimate responsibility.

“It’s a new challenge but I love learning and this position is certainly bringing me lots of opportunities to do just that.

“Learning to manage the team, dealing with practice finances and teaching and mentoring younger vets.

“A top priority for me is to continue to develop clinical skills, especially in dentistry and surgery.

“Dentistry is a keen interest of mine and is becoming an ever-bigger part of my job.

“I have a post-graduate certificate in small animal medicine and I’m working towards further qualifications in small animal dentistry and oral surgery.

“I’m keen to build our dental service and highlight the importance of teeth brushing in our pets and preventative health care.

“I also want to introduce laparoscopic treatment (keyhole surgery) to the practice and build our CT scan referral service.”

Dave graduated from Glasgow Vet school in 2007. It’s his hometown and where he met his wife Jenny, who is also a veterinary surgeon at Wildbore Vetstop.

The couple moved to South Yorkshire, where Dave started work at a busy practice in Rotherham.

He added: “After four years of work, I wanted to move to a practice with higher clinical standards and somewhere I could learn from experienced colleagues.

“I joined Wildbore and have been here ever since, enjoying various positions from assistant vet, senior vet and now clinical director.

“It has been a great move for me and the family. We really enjoy it here, and away from work we love walking in the Peak district with our boys and Hettie our Labrador.”
