Veterinary Continuing Professional Development (CPD) specialist Improve International has announced the appointment of Dr Hannes Bergmann as Course Director for its Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) in Small Animal Surgery.  In this role he will oversee course content and act as a specialist advisor to delegates.  As part of his new role, he will also be developing a series of new learning resources for Improve's online learning platform to help delegates consolidate their studies between modules.

Hannes graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, in 2001 and completed an internship at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover.  Following research in perioperative pain therapy he achieved his Doctorate degree in 2003. He spent a year in small animal practice before taking up a three year residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Berne, Switzerland.  He has worked in referral practice in the UK since 2007 and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in July 2008.  He has lectured for Improve International for eight years.

Improve International is one of the UK’s leading veterinary training companies with a 18 year track record in providing structured CPD to veterinary professionals.  Its postgraduate programmes are accredited by the European School of Postgraduate Veterinary Studies (ESVPS) and validated by Harper Adams University.  Several of its Postgraduate Certificate programmes (PgCs), including its flagship Small Animal Medicine and Small Animal Surgery Certificates, confer eligibility for applications for RCVS Advanced Practitioner status.

Commenting on his appointment, Hannes Bergmann said:  "During my time lecturing for Improve, I have gained significant insight into the Small Animal Surgery programme as a whole and I am excited at the opportunity to develop the programme further, especially on the practical side.  I am already working on a number of clinical case studies and additional questions to support the modules and am particularly looking forward to developing the new online learning tools. My aim is to ensure that every delegate enjoys the course and that it exceeds their expectations in every aspect."

David Babington MRCVS, Managing Director of Improve, added:  "Hannes is a popular lecturer with our Small Animal Surgery PgC delegates and we believe his skills and expertise, combined with his knowledge of Improve, equip him perfectly for the role of Course Director.  He will set the strategic direction of the programme content-wise and is leading the development of some new online learning resources to help us offer delegates a true 'blended learning' experience.

"He will also work closely with Stephanie Godfrey, the Programme Tutor, to ensure that our existing delegates are fully supported throughout the duration of their programme."

Acquired by Benchmark Holdings Plc in February 2015 and based in Swindon, Improve provides high quality CPD in a range of formats for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, receptionists and practice managers to help them to develop their skills and knowledge, using a combination of review lectures, case-based discussion and where, applicable, hands-on practical sessions.
