The European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ESVPS) has appointed a new Director to spearhead the development of its examination methods; to enhance its assessment models and to support its global expansion in collaboration with its partner education providers.

Dr Sheila Wills BSc BVetMed CertSAM DipECVIM-CA MRCVS graduated from the Royal Veterinary College and spent five years in small animal practice before undertaking an FAB Residency in Feline Medicine at the University of Bristol. She was later appointed Head of Small Animal Medicine and the Feline Centre at the Animal Health Trust. She acquired the ECVIM Diploma in Internal Medicine in September 2010 and is a European Veterinary Specialist in Internal Medicine and an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Feline Medicine.  She has worked in referral practice for the last ten years.

ESVPS is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2003 to provide attainable, balanced qualifications for veterinary practitioners working in full-time practice. In the UK, ESVPS works closely with Improve International which delivers the modular training for its Postgraduate Certificate programmes. Improve has a 20-year track record in providing structured continuing professional development (CPD) to veterinary professionals. ESVPS also works with Harper Adams University which provides the higher education body quality assurance. In Europe, ESVPS partners with Evidensia, the largest veterinary group in the Nordic region.

Commenting on her appointment, Dr Wills said: “I am passionate about the provision of high quality CPD to ensure that vets and nurses remain up to date and am delighted to join an association that not only ensures that our education providers offer cutting edge CPD but also helps its candidates to achieve a post-graduate qualification to recognise their commitment to their chosen specialist areas.

“In joining ESVPS and its partner educating bodies, I am fulfilling a long-held ambition to work at the forefront of the veterinary post-graduate education and certification sector.

“I look forward to strengthening our current relationships in the months ahead and to developing new relationships with education providers in different countries.  I also look forward to promoting ESVPS and the extensive range of certifications it provides globally.”

Dr Wills reports to ESVPS Director Mr James Banfield.  He said: “We are delighted to have someone of Sheila’s international standing and experience join us to lead the ESVPS team. Sheila will undoubtedly help us deliver our ambitions in developing veterinary certification across the global market.”
