Norbrook Offers Vets Complimentary Cytology Webinars As Part Of CPD
Norbrook is offering veterinary surgeons and nurses complimentary training by dermatology experts as part of its ongoing commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
The training includes a four-part series of dermatology and cytology webinars for veterinary surgeons, and a further two webinars covering practical cytology for vet nurses.
Written and presented by Dr Tim Nuttall and Dr Ariane Neuber, the webinars have been created in affiliation with Betafuse – a new fusidic acid and betamethasone gel, indicated for the treatment of canine surface pyoderma, including acute moist dermatitis (hot spots) and intertrigo (skin fold dermatitis).
Dr Tim Nuttall, a RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology, says cytology is quick and easy to perform in practice with sampling and staining techniques suited to different skin lesions, which can be performed to give fast patient-side confirmation of a bacterial pyoderma.
“Cytology should be performed in all cases to confirm the diagnosis of pyoderma before starting treatment. It plays a key role in reducing unnecessary antibiotic use. These webinars will describe how to perform and interpret cytology in practice.”
The six-part webinar series is scheduled to begin on 22 February 2018, with one episode each month until 19 July 2018.
The programme includes ‘Introduction and clinical signs’, ‘Using cytology’, and ‘Making sense of culture results’ by Tim Nuttall, ‘Topical antimicrobial treatment’, ‘Bite size cytology: How to take a sample’ and ‘Bite size cytology: How to read a sample’, by Dr Ariane Neuber.
Dr Nuttall is Head of Dermatology and Infection Control at Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology, and Head of Dermatology, at the Hospital for Small Animals.
Dr Ariane Neuber, a European and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology, runs an independent veterinary dermatology referral service, ‘Derm4Pets’, and sees skin cases in Chalfont St Giles, Bucks, (Chiltern Referral Services) and Maidenhead, Berks, (Active Vetcare Referrals).
Betafuse is available in 15g and 30g poly-foil tubes for better flexibility and reduced chance of splitting. It also has a tamper proof seal on the outer packaging not over the tube, designed to be more user friendly.
