OV Practical Skills Manager Joins Improve International

Improve International, the veterinary training company responsible for Official Veterinarian (OV) training and revalidation, has appointed Marta Santias as Practical Skills Manager. In this role, she will manage the practical assessment elements required for OV training and support the development of new learning materials. She reports to Sue Hay, Head of Practical Skills at Improve.
Marta Santias qualified from the University of Cordoba, Spain, in 2012 and worked initially in in a laboratory where she carried out surveillance testing of diseases in wildlife. She then worked in a large animal practice for two years, carrying out a range of OV work, including TB testing.
Improve International was appointed by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) to develop OV registration and training in England, Scotland and Wales in 2014, in conjunction with its assessment partner the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ESVPS) and Harper Adams University, which validates the qualifications. Since then, it has launched 11 separate OCQ(V)s covering a variety of topics important for OVs, including introductory modules which form the foundation for the rest of the courses. It has also increased the learning opportunities available to OVs with the creation of an annual OV conference and the launch of Official Veterinarian magazine
Commenting on her new role, Marta Santias said: “The work carried out by OVs is vital, particularly with respect to safeguarding the health and welfare of farm animals. I am enjoying working with OVs and helping them to carry out their important work to the highest standard.”
Sue Hay, Practical Skills Manager, added: “In her new role, Marta will be helping us to develop additional OV training programmes and will also support OVs through the revalidation process. We are delighted to welcome her to the team.”
