An award-winning Yorkshire animal hospital, which has attracted some top specialists since opening its doors, is inviting fellow veterinary professionals to see its state-of-the-art facilities.

The fifth birthday celebrations take place at Linnaeus-owned Paragon Veterinary Referrals in Wakefield on Saturday, February 25, between 12pm and 4pm.

When Paragon opened in 2018 it pledged to bring the very best quality referral veterinary care to the region and build a team of industry-leading specialists.

Five years later and it is now home to 24 referral clinicians, which includes 15 diplomates and seven residents, as part of a total of 145 staff.

The full roll-call of specialists now working at Paragon are Mickey Tivers and Rob Adams (both small animal surgery); Liz Leece and Alex Dugdale (both anaesthesia); Andrea Holmes and Lizzy Conway (both internal medicine); Sophie Adamantos and Jennie Good (both ECC); Chris Linney and Julie Kavanagh (both cardiology); Massimo Mariscoli and Ricardo Fernandes (both neurology); Rodney Ayl (oncology); James Rushton (ophthalmology) and Turlough O’Neill (orthopaedics).

Paragon, which was the first referral centre be opened by Linnaeus, has also established four residency programmes in surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology and neurology.

The open day will let veterinary professionals take tours of the 18,000 sq. ft building, with demonstrations throughout the day and the opportunity to meet some of the veterinary team.

Clinical director Sophie Adamantos said: “Paragon has come a long way in just five years and we want to mark this fantastic achievement by giving others in the veterinary profession the opportunity to see behind the scenes at one of the largest and best-equipped animal centres in the UK.”

Paragon’s £5 million state-of-the-art veterinary centre boasts a £1 million imaging suite with state-of-the-art MRI and CT scanners, five operating theatres and extensive kennelling facilities and cat wards.

Its dedicated treatment includes ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, cardiology, neurology, medicine and dermatology.

Sophie added: “We had ambitious aims when we opened our doors in 2018 and I’m delighted to say that we’ve not only met them, but exceeded them.

“However, we will not rest on our laurels and will always look for ways to improve so we can continue to provide high quality multidisciplinary treatment for pets across the north of England.”
