LitterLoo's design uses a rotatable open litter area with an adjacent screen and compartment above a base, housing a removable waste receptacle. The litter area rotates to sift litter ten minutes after the cat leaves the litter box. As the unit rotates, waste is sifted with a screen and empties into the waste receptacle below. “Other automated litter boxes aren’t very good at preventing odor, but LitterLoo's large, well-sealed waste receptacle prevents the odor from escaping. The combination of a continuously clean litter area and a tightly sealed-off waste receptacle provides a virtually odor-free experience.
Ellen Taylor, a multiple-cat owner, instantly became a fan of the LitterLoo. “The LitterLoo is very reliable and virtually maintenance-free. I only empty it about once every two weeks; otherwise, I just add a bit of litter about once a week. I can’t get over how well it works!” said Taylor.
Today’s automated sifting litter boxes are dark and cramped inside because they’re enclosed, which is why cats don’t like them. Raking litter boxes are the most popular and successful in the market, but they clog often. They frequently smash clumps between the tines of the rake, preventing litter-raking function and requiring manual, unpleasant cleaning.
In the United States alone there are an estimated 38 million cat owners. Based on his success with prototype testing and significant market interest, Horanoff expects his design to be in many of these homes.
