Local animal lovers are invited to an exclusive event at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, on Thursday 20 March, to find out about PDSA’s vital charitable veterinary work from TV vet Steve Leonard. Steve LeonardThe event, which runs from 10am until 1pm, will be held in rooms not normally open to the public, overlooking the Duke of Marlborough’s private wing and gardens. Supporters attending the event can also meet PDSA Director General Jan McLoughlin and find out more about running a unique animal charity in tough economic times. For a £10 donation, supporters will learn about PDSA’s 97 year history from its humble beginnings in a cellar in London’s East End, its current work treating sick and injured animals across the UK, and the charity’s future plans to transform pet health. Steve will talk about his fascinating career as a TV vet, his voluntary work with PDSA and his contribution to animal welfare around the world.  A buffet lunch will also be provided. Speaking ahead of the much anticipated event, Steve said: “PDSA is an amazing organisation that makes a tremendous difference to the health and wellbeing of the nation’s pets. I know first-hand the fantastic work that they do and I’m really looking forward to meeting PDSA supporters in the area.” PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity and last year provided more than 2.3 million free treatments, two thirds of which were paid for by gifts in wills. The charity receives no government or National Lottery funding, so generous public support is vital to ensure the dedicated vets can continue to help more than 400,000 pets in need every year. Their pet insurance policies also help to sustain donations to pets as a percentage is given to treat sick animals. Steve Leonard first came to national attention in the BBC series ‘Vets in Practice’ and went on to present various other veterinary and wildlife programmes. In 2003 he took time out from his television career to work as a locum for PDSA’s PetAid hospital in Stoke-on-Trent.  After the event, PDSA guests can enjoy a private tour, or have ’licence to roam’ among the historic palace’s awe-inspiring public rooms and majestic gardens, including the Great Hall and State Rooms, plus the beautiful park landscaped by Capability Brown. Anyone interested in attending the event should call 0800 591 248 or visit www.pdsa.org.uk/legacyevents.  Bookings must be made by Monday 17th March 2013.
