Purina Signs Up As Fourth Global Sponsor For WSAVA CE Programme

Nestlé Purina PetCare has signed an agreement with the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) to become the fourth corporate sponsor of its global Continuing Education (CE) programme. The WSAVA is a global not-for-profit body which aims to improve the standard of veterinary care and welfare of small animals around the world. An umbrella organization, it represents 180,000 veterinarians globally through its 93 member associations. The provision of CE to countries around the world which lack the resources to do it themselves is one of its key priorities. Its work in this area is led by Dr Jill Maddison, Director of Professional Development at the Royal Veterinary College, who chairs its CE Committee. Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Bayer and MSD are existing corporate sponsors. Dr Maddison says: “During 2012, thanks to the support of our sponsors and our fantastic speakers, some of whom volunteer their time, we held 32 CE sessions in 30 countries. We know how much the countries we support value our help – I’ve just returned from a two day CE course in Sri Lanka which was attended by 85 veterinarians and was a great success. Seeing the passion and enthusiasm for learning of our colleagues in other countries, many of whom have to work with limited resources, is a humbling experience and spurs us on to do more to help. Our existing sponsors do a fantastic job for us and, having Nestlé Purina join them, will enable us both to provide richer learning experiences within our program and to reach more countries.” Dr Deborah S Greco DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVIM, Senior Research Scientist, Nestlé Purina PetCare, adds: “Nestlé Purina is keen to support veterinary education in all parts of the world, especially in developing countries and, by pairing with the WSAVA and its corporate partners, we will achieve this.
