Regans Vets Links Up With Manchester Charity To Provide Care To Vulnerable Dogs
The Regan Veterinary Group in Manchester has teamed up with homeless charity Lifeshare in an initiative to provide care to dogs owned by homeless and vulnerable people in Manchester and Salford. Vet Dr Victoria Cole joined the Lifeshare team during its weekly Breakfast Project on Sunday 27 August in north Manchester to carry out health checks on dogs, give advice and provide anti-parasite treatments. Going forward, the practice intends to offer ‘doggy wellbeing clinics’ on a quarterly basis to ensure that these animals receive veterinary care.
Regans Veterinary Group, part of CVS (UK) Ltd, has ten clinics across Manchester, Bolton and Wigan. Lifeshare is a voluntary organisation which works to help meet the needs of homeless and vulnerable people in Manchester and Salford. Its Breakfast Project sees volunteers serving breakfast for around 100 people every Saturday and Sunday morning in the Charter St Mission building on Dantzic Street. The project is supported by donations from the public and support from local food suppliers.
Commenting on Regans’ involvement, Victoria Cole said: “Lifeshare’s Breakfast Project helps to create a sense of community in an otherwise transient environment and, as a Manchester-based veterinary practice, we were keen to support its work.
“For many homeless and vulnerable people, their dogs are treasured companions so protecting them from disease and parasites is the most important thing we can do to help their owners to continue to benefit from the unconditional love they give them. We can also, of course, provide vital care to these wonderful dogs.”
She added: “I really enjoyed attending the Breakfast on Sunday and met some wonderful dogs with their owners who appreciated the help we gave them. We hope this session will be the start of our regular doggie wellbeing sessions and look forward to working with Lifeshare to help both these deserving dogs and their owners in the months ahead.”
