We declared March as ‘Rehome a Horse’ month to encourage more people to consider rehoming rather than buying by highlighting a number of different case studies where horses had remarkable stories of recovery such as Homer our former Adoption Horse who has now been transformed after being found in a field with his headcollar embedded into the top of his head which had caused a huge wound that was infested with maggots.
Last month an impressive 23 horses and ponies in total were rehomed from our Rescue and Rehoming Centres. This compares to March last year when 15 horses were rehomed.
Deputy Chief Executive at World Horse Welfare Tony Tyler said: “It is fantastic news that we have rehomed so many of our horses and ponies. I’m sure we will continue to feel the effect of the campaign over the next few months as well. We desperately need people to consider rehoming a horse or pony from us as all of our centres are once again full to bursting point after our Field Officers were so busy dealing with welfare concerns during the winter. We would urge people to think about rehoming rather than buying as we always have lots of wonderful horses available for rehoming.”
