One of the UK’s elite eye care clinics for animals is celebrating 10 years in business, which has seen it grow from one small room and five staff to three state-of-the-art centres and a team of more than 40.

Linnaeus-owned Veterinary Vision opened its doors in 2012 with the ambition of providing a dedicated ophthalmology referral service across the north of England and south of Scotland.

From a single consultation room and office, Veterinary Vision has developed three centres over 10 years and its clinics at Penrith, Sunderland and Charnock Richard now cover a total of 17,500 sq. ft – a staggering 13,000 per cent growth in floor space.

Its team of 42 staff across the practices now have access to 11 consult rooms, seven operating theatres, and equine examination facilities.

A total of 28,756 animals have been referred to Veterinary Vision for treatment – everything from cats, dogs, horses and rabbits, to owls, salamanders and even a Highland cow.

The team at Veterinary Vision celebrated the 10-year milestone with a party at its Penrith site, with four members of the original team who were there on day one – Gary Lewin, Chris Dixon, Nicola Atkins and Julie Potts.

Chris, the practice’s clinical director, said: “We’ve come such a long way since we opened the doors in 2012 and we are very proud of what our fantastic team has accomplished. The business has thrived on its reputation for expert advice and pioneering surgery, and the reinvestment in our staff and facilities will continue into the future.

“We are very grateful to all our referring veterinary surgeons and nurses for their support. Over the years Veterinary Vision has provided more than 50 free of charge CPD events for our referring practices. We understand that clients cannot always afford referral during this difficult time, and we will continue with our free telephone advice service for referring vets.

“We have had so many messages of gratitude from our clients over the years, and it is a wonderful feeling to know that we have improved the quality of life for thousands of pets.

“Our practice manager Lisa Holme organised an action-packed day for us on the 10-year anniversary, and after the difficulties of working through the COVID pandemic, it was a great to get everyone together.

“The ambition we had on day one of Veterinary Vision has been exceeded, and we are all excited about our development plans for 2023. Here’s to the next decade!”

Veterinary Vision is equipped for all types of ocular surgery with 11 veterinary ophthalmologists offering a vast range of experience and knowledge in small animal, and equine eye conditions.
