Specialists in weight management, ROYAL CANIN will be tackling the difficult subject once again at this year’s BVNA Congress. Visitors to the ROYAL CANIN® stand will be able to seek expert advice and have the opportunity to register for a new online weight management training course.

Delegates this year will have the opportunity to register for the new ROYAL CANIN® Weight Management Online course for FREE! An interactive training course, it provides eight hours of CPD, with additional support from ROYAL CANIN’s dedicated Weight Management Team via an online forum, usually worth £99.

The course features six modules: Obesity is a disease; Body Condition Scoring; Feeding for weight loss diets; Communicating the positives of weight loss; Running a weight loss clinic; and Success is a team effort. Each module contains additional downloadable reading material and/or learning tools, as well as knowledge-based questions. The course will run from 13th November to 3rd December, with three weeks given to complete the six modules.

Louise Brennan, a Weight Management Specialist at ROYAL CANIN, said: “The prevalence of pet obesity is increasing in the UK, with at least 59% of all dogs and 39% of all cats overweight or obese¹. As Weight Management Specialists, we have recognised the need to provide further education to support the veterinary profession to help understand the serious nature of the disease and how to communicate this to pet owners. Our new Weight Management Online tool combines our many years of research into understanding obesity in cats and dogs to deliver a series of unique training tools that are flexible to meet practices’ needs, enabling us to share ground-breaking science with the veterinary community and help tackle this disease in practice.”

Vets and RVNs that complete Weight Management Online within the three week time frame will be invited to complete the second stage, allowing them to become a ROYAL CANIN® Weight Management Counsellor using the new online tool, Weight Management Assist. This delivers, in a few easy steps, an online tool providing ideal weight and calorie intake calculations, diet recommendations, cost per day and Body Condition Score calculations at the click of a mouse!

ROYAL CANIN’s Weight Management Academy also provides further supports such as webinars, workshop based in-clinic training and access to the Approved Weight Management Centre programme which delivers a bespoke training service to practices, enabling them to develop and implement gold standard weight management protocols.
