We all have those older and rather creaky patients in our practices - so what can we do to help them?
ONCORE online learning have launched a brand new physiotherapy module offering an introduction to useful techniques suitable for geriatric patients. With the prevalence of osteoarthritis (O A) thought to be at about 80% in geriatric dogs*, and with similar figures for cats; there are lots of patients who would benefit from physiotherapy to improve mobility.
The two week, 100% online, interactive course will offer vet and nurse delegates a chance to recap on the 'downward spiral' of osteoarthritis that many patients face, and how we can work to slow that process and improve these patient's lives.
The module is fully tutored by veterinary physiotherapist Katie Lawrence, who has 15 years' experience in treating many species. As Katie says, ' joints that are not used to their full range deteriorate, as do the soft tissues around them. It is a downward spiral. Integration of some daily techniques and exercises can break this cycle and greatly improve quality of life and mobility for these pets.'
The module will also look at incorporation of basic physiotherapy into our geriatric and mobility clinics, offering clients what may be a unique service in your area. It will also look at how we can 'train' owners in some of these basic methods so that treatment can also be continued at home, in-between clinics.
The module offers 6 hours of CPD over 2 weeks, and has an introductory price of £129.
