Significant Benefit Of DEEP OSCILLATION® In Treating Equine Tendon Scar Tissue
Sue Wright, MFR Practitioner, has documented a compelling case study illustrating the significant benefit of DEEP OSCILLATION® in treating equine tendon scar tissue. This story centres around Duke, an 18-year-old Welsh Section D Cross.
In September 2024, Duke sustained a severe injury when he caught his hind leg while jumping out of a horsebox, resulting in a 90% severed hind leg extensor tendon. Following initial surgery, Duke underwent three months of box rest and wore a plaster cast from his hoof to his hock for two weeks. Despite initial recovery efforts, by June 2025, Duke experienced limited flexion in the injured fetlock joint, knuckling at the front, and stood without placing his heel on the ground after being stabled. Vets ultimately diagnosed the problem as wholly scar tissue.
To address this challenge, treatment using Deep Oscillation was permitted. Duke's owner, Hannah Cooper, was trained to use the Deep Oscillation Machine, often applying it twice a day for optimum results. Duke responded well to the treatment, demonstrating his approval by licking and chewing during sessions. After just one week of daily use, Duke showed immediate improvement: his heel was down, he was no longer resting the leg, and the scar was noticeably softer. Following a supplementary ‘McLoughlin Scar Tissue’ hands-on treatment, Duke walked away flexing both fetlocks evenly. This case highlights the role of Deep Oscillation Therapy in active healing for rapid regeneration and its effectiveness in treating fibrosis and scar tissue in equines.
