Sir Christopher Evans OBE, one of Europe’s most influential and successful medical science entrepreneurs, will deliver the keynote speech at VET Festival (Veterinary Education Tomorrow) at Loseley Park in Surrey on Saturday 4th June, it was announced today.

In a career spanning over three decades, Sir Christopher has played a vital role in human medicine innovation, including the development of the world’s first gene medicine to treat brain cancer and the world’s first stem cell product to be clinically trialled on humans suffering the effects of stroke.  He has established 50 ground breaking science companies, 21 of which have been taken public on six stock markets. Through his most successful enterprise, the early venture capital firm Merlin Biosciences, he has influenced the formation of 35 companies worth over £3.5 billion and developing over 200 new medical projects.

Sir Christopher will join the VET Festival to address veterinary professionals on the latest advancements in human medicine and how, by working together in the spirit of ‘One Medicine’, the human medicine and veterinary medicine worlds can take giant strides forward for the good of all species.  Sir Christopher says “I'm delighted I can help Professor Noel Fitzpatrick make his Vet Festival as exciting as possible this year and progress further his vision of ONE MEDICINE  -bringing the human and veterinary medical worlds closer still for the common good "

Securing Sir Christopher Evans OBE as a speaker further cements the VET Festival as the platform for state-of-the-art veterinary education and development. The dynamic and engaging two-day outdoor conference is staged at Loseley Park in Guildford, Surrey, on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th June and is designed for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, veterinary rehab practitioners, practice support staff, managers and allied veterinary professionals working in companion animal practice.

Sir Christopher Evans joins a line up of 21 of the world’s most celebrated small animal medicine practitioners, visionaries and thought leaders from across the USA, Canada and the UK who are veterinary specialists and experts in fields including clinical & surgical orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, medical & surgical oncology, neurology & neurosurgery, minimally invasive surgery & diagnostics, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy, sports medicine & rehabilitation, anesthesia & critical care, nutrition, feline medicine & surgery and practice management & team building.

Every speaker has been chosen for their dedication in and their proven passion for the profession. This unique and unrivalled opportunity to hear, learn and network with some of the greatest minds in the veterinary world is only available at VET Festival.

The world-class CPD programme offered at VET Festival has been designed by vets for vets and was conceived by Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, of Fitzpatrick Referrals.

Noel continues, I am deeply honoured and very excited that Sir Professor Chris Evans is delivering the Keynote speech at The VET Festival 2016. Sir Chris is a luminary in the human medical field having championed the development of numerous pharmaceuticals and innovations in biotech across the world and having successfully commercialised most of his developments. There is nobody better placed at the coalface of medical research and economics than he to inspire us to think where veterinary medicine can and should be in 10 years from now and nobody better qualified to talk about One Medicine. The concept that animal and human healthcare innovations can and should move forward together, will be the central theme of his presentation, with specific reference to his own journey – why and how he has become one of the leading medical entrepreneurs in the world today.

I know he will invigorate, motivate, educate and inspire us and it’s a distinct mark of respect for the growing credibility and momentum of our profession that he has decided to address a veterinary audience for the very first time at The VET Festival. It’s going to be an event to remember, I’m quite sure.
