SPANARAMA Joins Vet Charity Challenge 2015 To Raise Funds For Sick And Injured Working Animals
International working animal charity, SPANA, is entering a team in this year’s Vet Charity Challenge. The charity is one of three charities benefitting from the fundraising event, taking place at Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, on 26 September.
The charity’s team, named “SPANARAMA”, will be taking on the gruelling physical and mental challenge, which involves mountain biking, kayaking and orienteering, to show their support and raise funds. The team consists of SPANA vet, Cecilia Gath, and three SPANA fundraisers.
The funds raised by the Vet Charity Challenge through donations and sponsorship will allow SPANA to provide more free veterinary treatment to working animals, such as horses, donkeys and camels, in developing countries across the world. Many of the world’s poorest people rely entirely on these animals for their livelihoods, but without SPANA they often have no access to veterinary care, and no means to pay for it.
The Vet Charity Challenge has so far raised over £100,000 for animal charities.
Jeremy Hulme, chief executive of SPANA, said: “We’re thrilled to have been chosen as a beneficiary charity of the Vet Charity Challenge and we’re so grateful to the organisers, sponsors and every team taking part. The magnificent support they’ve given to SPANA is making a considerable difference, helping us to provide much-needed treatment to thousands more working animals in developing countries each year. The lack of veterinary services available to these animals, and the poverty of their owners, means that animals in need of treatment would often suffer without intervention from SPANA. Thanks to the Vet Charity Challenge we can be there for so many more animals and the impoverished communities that depend on them.”
