A trio of Yorkshire vets will be holding open events at the start of next month to give potential new nursing recruits an insight into life within the practices.

The open events are planned at Linnaeus-owned Abbey House Veterinary Hospital in Morley, Leeds; Calder Vets, which has 11 practices across West Yorkshire; and leading referral centre Paragon Veterinary Referrals, in Wakefield.

The award-winning practices will be opening their doors to veterinary professionals, including student veterinary nurses and RVNs in a bid to give a glimpse behind the scenes for those looking for a new challenge within the industry.

The events will feature a chance to meet and speak to leading figures at each site, mini CPD sessions and a clear understanding of the work carried out at each.

On Tuesday, March 1, Abbey House will be holding an event at its Morley practice from 7pm to 8.30pm and, as well as receiving a free goodie bag, visitors will be able to learn more about accreditations earned by the practice, including gold ISFM, along with the opportunity to understand some of the emergencies seen there.

On Wednesday, March 2, Calder Vets will host an open event at its flagship Dewsbury hospital from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, offering a chance to participate in a mini CPD practical session entitled: Skin and ear cytology for primary care dermatology.

Visitors will be able to join in with a bite-size practical session on sample preparation and examination, as well as exploring Calder new physiotherapy suite.

Finally, on Saturday, March 12, from 1pm to 4pm, industry-leading referral centre Paragon Veterinary Referrals will open its doors to visitors as part of an event where they will be sharing all aspects of available roles, giving a tour of the hospital and a couple of short presentations on patient safety checks and life as an ICU nurse.

There will also be a meet and greet session with team members and light refreshments.

Sally Wong, Linnaeus regional director for Calder and Abbey House, said the events were an excellent way to showcase what each practice has to offer potential recruits.

She said: “We’re really excited to be opening the doors of Abbey House, Calder and Paragon, and giving an insight into how the teams at each of them work, along with sharing our ethos and team personalities.

“We pride ourselves on investing in both our practices and our people, while offering a friendly and enjoyable environment.

“These events are an opportunity for us to get to know potential new recruits and share with them our vision for long-term growth and career development at each site.”
