An award-winning animal hospital in Yorkshire has added two more specialists to its growing team.

Paragon Veterinary Referrals, in Wakefield, has appointed Rob Adams, a specialist in small animal surgery, as head of orthopaedics.

Rob has switched to Paragon along with cardiology diplomate Julie Kavanagh, who joins from a role which saw her set up the first specialist cardiology service in Northern Ireland.

Rob, who also co-hosts BBC Sounds’ popular podcast ‘Alright Pet?’, trained at fellow Linnaeus practice Davies Veterinary Specialists.

He said: “I am particularly pleased to have joined fellow specialist Turlough O’Neill in the orthopaedic team here at Paragon.

“We offer an unrivalled orthopaedic service in the region which focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a vast range of conditions.

“I enjoy all aspects of orthopaedic surgery with a particular interest in elbow dysplasia, arthroscopy, fracture repair and joint replacement and I’m keen to use my past experiences to help grow the service even more.”

Julie, who will be teaming up with head of cardiology and fellow specialist Chris Linney, said: “I am very excited to join this talented team at Paragon and expand the cardiology service.

“I have a particular interest in congenital heart disease and will be able to offer the most advanced interventional procedures as well as exceptional patient and client care.”

Julie graduated from University College, Dublin, in 2012 and gained her American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine diploma in 2019.

Rob graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2008 and became a Royal College and European specialist in 2018.

On the BBC podcast, which he co-presents with broadcaster Anne-Marie Wallace, he’s interviewed the likes of TV Presenter Eamonn Holmes, BBC sports commentator Andrew Cotter and American animal rights activist Carol Baskin.

He said: “The guests help us celebrate the bond we all have with our pets and offer their own advice and help to listeners. It’s a lot of fun but also delivers plenty of important information.”

Paragon also provides expert care in anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.
