The new School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey played host to a Dermatology and Cardiology Conference organised specifically for its new graduates by CVS on 22 March 2016.  More than 90 veterinary surgeons in the first year of the company’s New Graduate Programme attended and enjoyed dermatology sessions led by Dr Stephen Shaw BVetMed, PhD DVD MRCVS, RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology and Sarah Warren BVetMed MsC (Clin Onc) Cert CD MRCVS.  The Cardiology programme was led by Dr Luca Ferasin DVM PhD Cert VC PGCert (HE) Dip ECVIM-CA (Cardiology), a European and RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology.

Commenting on the event, Charlotte Bray BVetMed MRCVS, CVS’ Veterinary Graduate Programme Manager, said: “Our New Graduate Programme is the most extensive in the market and we are constantly looking to enhance the training and development we provide to our new graduates. Dermatology and cardiology cases are seen very regularly in practice and can be challenging to diagnose and treat.  For this reason, we felt they would be ideal topics to cover at our first year Graduate Conference.

“The state of the art surroundings of the University of Surrey provided a great backdrop to the Conference and the feedback I’ve received confirms that delegates found the opportunity to learn from some of the UK’s leading experts invaluable.  They also enjoyed the opportunity to spend time together as a group, sharing their experiences of their first months in practice.  We are very grateful to Elanco Animal Health for sponsoring the conference and for providing comprehensive notes and a ‘Derm kit’ to each delegate.”

She added: “During the Conference, four delegates were invited to attend pre-BSAVA Congress meetings.”

They were:

British Veterinary Dermatology Study Group Meeting:  Louise Marriage, County Vets; Kate McGrath, The Woolpack.

Key to its success is CVS' ability to attract ambitious veterinary staff whilst continuing to invest in the development of their clinical skills and in research to drive the profession forward.  It also provides the business support to ensure its diverse range of small animal, large animal and equine practices achieve their full potential.   CVS' guiding principles include a commitment to excellence in all aspects of its work and a focus on building long-term relationships with its customers and suppliers.  The company works in close partnership with the wider veterinary profession and industry colleagues.
