US Stars Take Action For World Animal Week (4-10 October)

Actors Kellan Lutz (Twilight), Brooke Shields, Kristin Davis, Christina Applegate, Tiffani Thiessen and supermodel Joanna Krupa (best known for Dancing with the Stars) are among the stars teaming up with WSPA to raise awareness about animal welfare during World Animal Week. To show their support for animals during World Animal Week (4-10 October), the stars have all endorsed WSPA's campaign for a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW). Will you join them by saying animals matter to you? A UDAW, if accepted by the United Nations, will encourage governments to make and enforce laws that benefit animals – laws that can also help people and protect the environment. Cecily West, Executive Director of WSPA USA, commented: “Support from the entertainment industry is vital in helping to bring attention to animal issues on a global scale. We are thrilled that these stars aligned themselves with WSPA to ask for a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare.” Get involved this October Kicking off on October 4, World Animal Week is a yearly reminder to make the world a safer, more compassionate place for all animals. WSPA is asking the public to join these celebrities in backing a UDAW and helping to achieve global recognition that can feel pain, can suffer, and that people have a responsibility to put an end to cruelty around the world. Say animals matter to you! Animal champions “Whether providing comfort and companionship in our homes or supplying crucial labour to support families in need, animals matter to each one of us. Our celebrity supporters understand this important connection between animals and people,” says Cecily. In addition to signing the petition, many of the stars have also helped animals through hands-on action. Kristin Davis was recently in Kenya where she helped rescue a baby elephant. The elephant, Chaimu, is now being cared for at an orphanage overseen by WSPA member society the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Kristin and the other celebrity supporters are joining the world’s largest animal welfare network – WSPA works with over 1,000 animal welfare groups in more than150 countries to protect animals and alleviate their suffering.
