A former pupil has revisited his old school to give inquisitive youngsters an insight into the veterinary world.

Luke Frewin, who is regional support manager at Linnaeus-owned Village Vet, which has 30 practices across London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, was asked to pay a visit to Whybridge Junior School, in Rainham.

Luke, who attended Whybridge as a child, first joined Village Vet’s Winchmore Hill practice as a student vet nurse, before qualifying as a registered veterinary nurse and moving on to another Linnaeus practice, London Vet Specialists (LVS).

Luke joined LVS as an imaging and oncology nurse before taking up the position of senior nursing manager and, latterly, hospital manager at its busy Belsize Lane site.

He recently rejoined the Village Vet group as regional support manager and the school asked him to give pupils an insight into how the veterinary world works.

Pupils were left enthralled as Luke described his journey from student nurse through to his current role at Village Vet, while also showing them x-rays, asking them to guess what they were off and whether they were human or animal.

Luke said: “I was so pleased to return to Whybridge and was delighted when they asked me to host an assembly.

“I was more than happy to talk through my career in the veterinary world and give them a glimpse of what it would be like to work as a vet or vet nurse.

“We had some great fun with the x-rays and there were plenty of questions at the end of it. Hopefully, we have some aspiring vets and vet nurses of the future amongst them!”

A spokesperson for the school said: “We were extremely lucky to have Luke return to Whybridge to host an assembly for all year groups.

“Luke is a former pupil here and is now enjoying a successful career as a registered veterinary nurse and regional support manager at Village Vet.

“A big thank-you to Luke for hosting the assembly. The children found it fascinating and loved asking questions!”

Village Vet has 30 practices across London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. For more information, visit www.villagevet.co.uk or search for Village Vet on social media.
