Bedfordshire based dressage rider and trainer Natalie Banks, from Peak Performance Horses, has been selected by VTI thermographer Hayley Springett for sponsorship. Natalie is a registered British Dressage and UKCC Level 2 Coach and has competed successfully abroad and at FEI level. She competes regularly, is actively involved in training and coaching and also produces top quality dressage horses and ponies. “The support from Hayley at Veterinary Thermal Imaging will ensure that I can keep my horses in top condition, as the images can detect painful areas up to three weeks before the horse exhibits any symptoms,” says Natalie. “This way, I can help prevent some ailments and do my best to ensure my horses are all happy and pain free, which is the most important thing to me. Hayley visits my yard to take the images, and she is brilliant with the horses.” VTI provides amateur and professional horse owners with a cost effective management tool. Most commonly, VTI is used as a diagnostic aid, much like x-rays or MRI scans, and works by detecting minor temperature changes which can help to highlight areas of interest up to three weeks before the horse exhibits clinical symptoms. The state of the art infra red cameras that are used are around 40 times more sensitive than the human hand when it comes to detecting temperature changes. This non-invasive, safe service can be done in the comfort of the horse’s stable (removing the need for travelling and sedation) and has so many uses. “The horses are so relaxed during the imaging; I even get my unbacked youngsters done as it’s totally non-invasive,” says Natalie. “More people should look into using Veterinary Thermal Imaging, as not only can it detect issues before symptoms arise, but can also save money on diagnostic imaging. I will also use Hayley as part of my pre-purchase checks prior to vetting, so that any possible areas of concern can be concentrated on, which will save me a lot of time, money and heartache.” “I decided to sponsor Natalie as she has a great reputation as a dressage trainer and is very keen on thermal imaging and how it can help her horses,” says Hayley from VTI. “She wants to ensure that both her own horses and those belonging to clients stay in tip top condition, and sees VTI as part of this. She’s dedicated to providing a fantastic service to her clients, and VTI helps her do so.” VTI offers a nationwide all species thermal imaging service and prices start from just £30 plus travel for a scan.
