Veterinary digital content specialist Vetstream has been appointed as a Media Partner of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) to increase the range of educational resources the association offers its members.

The AAEP is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the health and welfare of the horse. It reaches more than 5 million horse owners through more than 9,000 members worldwide and is actively involved in ethics issues, practice management, research and continuing education in the equine veterinary profession and horse industry.

Vetstream specialises in the provision of digital reference resources to the veterinary sector with its Vetlexicon suite of services forming the world's largest online, point-of-need clinical veterinary reference tool. Vetlexicon Equis (for horses) contains more than 2,000 articles (covering diseases, diagnostic and surgical techniques) and an extensive formulary, as well as 3,500 images and radiographs; and heart sounds and videos, which have been prepared and peer-reviewed by more than 500 of the world’s leading equine veterinarians. The resources are constantly updated to ensure they reflect best practices and are accessible 24/7 through any internet-enabled smart device. The compliance and education of horse owners is supported within Equis through the provision of more than 150 owner fact sheets covering health and welfare aspects of horse ownership.

“We are excited to enter into this partnership and offer such an excellent media resource for equine healthcare to improve the lives and business operations of the equine practitioner,” said AAEP Executive Director David Foley. “We look forward to continuing to work with Vetstream to benefit the continuing education of practitioners for the health of the horse.”

“We are delighted to join forces with AAEP” added Vetstream CEO Dr Mark Johnston.  “As knowledge continues to advance, it can be difficult for busy clinicians to keep up to date with the latest thinking and to have all the information that they need to hand to deal with an immediate clinical need, especially as textbooks and journals are often not accessible around the practice or in the field when they are needed. Our Vetlexicon services enable them to access the very latest clinical resources whenever and wherever they need them.

“Vetstream has focused on delivering educational resources to veterinarians for more than 20 years. Joining forces with the AAEP, which has provided resources and leadership for the benefit of the equine industry for more than six decades, is a natural partnership that will support equine veterinarians, their patients and owners.”

In addition to its Equis service, Vetlexicon includes peer-reviewed clinical resource for companion animals: Canis (for dogs), Felis (for cats), Lapis (for rabbits), Exotics (for exotics) and Practis, which supports practice managers. Its Bovis (for cows) service was just launched in August. Vetstream is a Global Educational Partner and Communications Partner of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), which is a global community of 110 member associations and more than 200,000 individual veterinarians.

The three other AAEP Media Partners are EquiManagement and EQUUS, both AIM Equine Network publications and The Horse: Your Guide to Equine Health Care. Each supports the AAEP through education and dissemination to members and their clients of cutting-edge horse health news.
