VetThing Builds Momentum As More Practices Join Its Fast-growing Group
Future looks bright for its vet-led community and unique ownership model
Six new sites across four practices have joined VetThing over the last few months, taking its total to eleven sites across seven practices.
The practices joining VetThing are: The London Cat Clinic in Bermondsey; Grace Lane Vets in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire; Midsomer Vets in Somerset; and Orchard House Vets operating across three sites in Northumberland.
This level of growth is testament to VetThing’s open and transparent approach. Founding vets who join its community become partners in the group by converting their practice value into a direct shareholding, while retaining clinical freedom to run their practices their way. It’s no surprise that VetThing’s unique operating model is therefore attracting a great deal of interest from the sector.
On announcing the new practices VetThing CEO Dr Ben Hanning MRCVS said: ‘As a vet myself, I know how much of a practice owner's identity is tied up in their practice and the people within it.
‘That's precisely why VetThing has been built the way it has. Every practice that joins us does so on the basis that what makes them special is protected, not compromised and given space to flourish. The quality and diversity of practices choosing VetThing in this relatively short time tells me the profession has been waiting for this kind of model.
‘The support that we provide enables practices to develop their clinical services and invest in technology, equipment and most importantly, their people. I am delighted to be welcoming such exemplary practices to the VetThing community.’
The diversity of the practices that are choosing to join VetThing is striking, underlining the group’s broad appeal across the sector:
- The London Cat Clinic provides expert feline-only veterinary care and referrals in its award-winning purpose-built practice in the heart of London and is an ISFM Gold Standard Cat Friendly clinic.
- Grace Lane Vets in Kirbymoorside, North Yorkshire countryside offers small animal, equine and farm livestock services in its modern, purpose-built premises.
- Midsomer Vets near Radstock in Somerset provides all-round small animal care and offers clients its own Pet Club care plan.
- Orchard House Vets in Northumberland is a larger practice, operating across three sites in Hexham, Stocksfield and Bellingham and looking after the much-loved pets of around 9,000 families across the county.
VetThing is part of Vetopia – one of Europe’s fastest-growing veterinary groups with more than 200 practices across nine countries. Each VetThing practice will continue to be locally run while benefitting from Vetopia’s extensive European network, advanced resources and collaborative approach that provide support but encourage autonomy.
What really sets the group apart is its unique ownership model as more than half of the company’s shares are owned by employees, an approach rarely seen in the profession. This enables vets and clinic leaders to become shareholders and directly benefit from the group’s success, while fostering long-term value, collective commitment and a sense of shared purpose across the network.
VetThing is interested to hear from other veterinary professionals and practice owners who want to learn more about the benefits of being a member of the group and its growing network. VetThing has recently redeveloped its website to reflect its rapid growth – visit www.vetthing.co.uk to find out more.
