Virbac will celebrate the first birthday of Parvo-Alert, an innovative social media-based service warning owners and vets of outbreaks of parvovirus, at the London Vet Show. It will also be offering a special prize to any visitors to its stand sporting a Movember 'mo' - Virbac's Canine Prostate Awareness Month (CPAM) also runs during November, helping practices use the media spotlight on human prostate disease to spread the message that dogs also suffer.
Launched in November 2012, @parvoalert has almost 2,000 followers on Twitter and recently moved onto Facebook where it has more than 4,000 likes. The service, which updates followers on the geographic location of cases by postcode, has attracted support from leading dog charities including Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and campaigning vets such as Marc Abraham. Parvo-Alert’s first birthday will be celebrated on Virbac’s stand throughout the London Vet Show.
The company's CPAM initiative is in its fourth year of raising awareness of the importance of testing for BPH in entire dogs. Participating practices receive a promotional pack, including owner educational and display materials, a template press release for local media and free branded slip leads to give to owners who have had their dog checked.
Commenting on plans for the London Vet Show, Simon Boulton MRCVS, Companion Animal Marketing Manager at Virbac, said: "We're looking forward to this year's show because, in addition to discussing recent introductions, such as our Electronic Dental Charting System, we'll be celebrating Parvo-Alert's first year. Demand for the service has exceeded our expectations and we have exciting plans to develop it during 2014.
We'll also be demonstrating Visio Care Consult, an interactive veterinary medicine and anatomy tool, for which we are able to offer a discount code to our customers. The system uses more than 600 3D graphics, animations, videos and other imagery to help veterinary staff explain diagnoses and to discuss therapeutic options.
Finally, as it's Movember, we look forward to seeing a good array of 'Mos' and have some special prizes for their brave wearers."1556 views
