The Veterinary Management Group (VMG) has shown its commitment to grow and expand its services with the appointment of a Development Manager, Dr Hannah Perrin.  Dr Perrin has been promoted to this new role, having initially joined the VMG in April 2019 as Media Manger.  Her immediate focus is in two key areas: ensuring the relevance and value of the benefits that the VMG offers its members and developing its education provision. As part of this, she is already working on a complete review of the VMG’s Certificate in Veterinary Practice Management with the intention of creating a fully-accredited course which will continue to be the flagship qualification for contemporary veterinary leaders.

Dr Perrin qualified as a pharmacologist before joining a four-site veterinary practice where she later became Practice Manager, a role that she held for almost ten years.  She returned to education to study for an MA in Health Services Research and a subsequent PhD in Veterinary Education.  She ran her own veterinary education and management consultancy and taught at the Royal Veterinary College for two years before joining the VMG in her previous role.

Commenting on her appointment, she said: “With its well-respected position in the veterinary sector, it is the perfect time to build on the VMG’s potential and to launch initiatives which will support its goal of offering 21st century veterinary leadership and management.  We’ve seen some amazing creativity and ingenuity from our members in recent weeks as they’ve worked hard to continue to provide a service to their clients, treat their animals, and look after their people despite the difficult times we are living through.

“I’m really looking forward to getting to know the membership better in my new role.  We have a great team of directors, who are ably supported by our regional organisers, as well as the office team. Working together, we will be exploring the increasingly diverse range of roles that can embody leadership in the veterinary world, both now and as we start to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

VMG President Mr Richard (Rich) Casey said: “This is an exciting time for the VMG as we start to roll out a three-year strategy to enable us to deliver on our vision of ensuring a world in which all benefit from excellent veterinary leadership and management.  It’s an ambitious goal and we recognise that it requires investment on our part. Hannah’s appointment reflects this.

“Since she joined us, she has significantly developed our digital strategy and launched major initiatives, including our VMG Research Grants.  In her new role, Hannah will lead key projects, working in partnership with our board and industry supporters. Her passion for evidence-based leadership and her extensive experience in education equip her perfectly for this role and we’re proud to have Hannah on board.”

The Veterinary Management Group (VMG) is the UK's leading association for those working in leadership and management roles in the veterinary sector.  A not-for-profit organisation, it works to champion the professional and personal development of those in the veterinary profession through CPD, networking, certified management accreditation and the provision of educational resources.
