A leading North East animal hospital threw open its doors to the public to give an insight into the world of specialist veterinary care.
Almost 200 people visited Wear Referrals, in Bradbury, County Durham, to enjoy guided tours of the state-of-the-art hospital and get a glimpse into the amazing work being done at Wear.
Darren Stubbs, hospital director at the Linnaeus-owned hospital, was delighted with the large turn-out and the positive reaction to the work done by the specialist-led team at Wear.
He said: “It was very rewarding to see so many people from our local community at the open day and to receive such good feedback from them.
“Many of our veterinary specialists, client care staff and nurses were on hand to give tours of the hospital to highlight our extensive facilities and to explain how we care for our patients.
“Our team spent the day talking with visitors and putting on fun activities for youngsters, such as showing how to use bandages, a colouring competition and a pet first-aid seminar.”
As well as tours of the animal hospital, visitors were also able to find out more about the work of Wear’s partners, including three charities – Pet Blood Bank, Dogs Trust and Wag & Company.
“The free ice cream and free pizza were certainly popular too but people were also generous in donating to raffles on the charity stands, making it a great day all round,” added Darren.
