A nurse at a Whittlesford veterinary practice been awarded the Outstanding Student Award at an emotion packed graduation ceremony.

Kianna Castle, who works at Linnaeus-owned Village Vet, has dedicated her incredible achievement to her dad, who passed away in the first year of her studies at Anglia Ruskin University and The College of West Anglia.

As well as qualifying as a veterinary nurse, the prestigious Outstanding Student Award was presented to Kianna due to her tenacity, perseverance, willingness to engage in her studies and the support she gave to her peers.

It also recognised the care Kianna, a mature student, places on animal welfare and ethics, together with the feedback she gave to staff allowing them to make improvements around the campus and to the degree as a whole.

Kianna said: “The ceremony was extremely emotional as I would have loved nothing more than for my dad to have seen me that day.

“He was an integral part of me continuously pushing myself and taught me to have a positive outlook on life.

“I will always show enthusiasm for my profession and for what I have achieved, always striving to make my family and myself proud.”

Rebecca Gilbert, clinical director at Village Vet in Whittlesford, said: “Kianna is an asset to the veterinary nursing profession, as recognised by this amazing honour.

“We’re very proud that she is part of the Village Vet team and her attitude to learning is also reflected in her dedication to animal care.”

Village Vet has six practices in Cambridgeshire, in Cottenham, Longstanton, Meldreth, Milton, Royston and Whittlesford.
