World Horse Welfare is now calling for abstracts from the world’s academic, research and scientific community as well as from working equid welfare practitioners for presentation at the 7th International Colloquium on Working Equids to be held at the Royal Holloway, University of London from July 1-3 2014.
There are an estimated 100 million working horses, donkeys and mules sustaining the livelihoods of people around the world, but their contribution – and their need for good care and welfare – are often overlooked.
World Horse Welfare works to improve the welfare of thousands of working equids in Cambodia, Guatemala, Honduras, Lesotho, Mexico, Nicaragua, Senegal and South Africa in addition to its extensive work in the UK and Europe, and will focus this Colloquium on answering the question: “How do we demonstrate the importance of working equid welfare to human livelihoods?”
The Colloquium is a recognised forum for discussing new research in the field of working equid welfare, and World Horse Welfare would like to encourage contributions from all those involved with working equids or people in developing countries where working equids are relied upon for transportation or agriculture – which are relevant to the following questions:- What role do working equids play in human livelihoods – and how well is this currently recognised?
- Does a holistic approach to improving equine welfare produce better outcomes?
- What is the role of veterinary science?
