The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has partnered with the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) to host an equine programme at this year’s London Vet Show (LVS), which takes place at the Olympia Grand on Thursday 19 November and Friday 20 November.

It is the first time that BEVA has been involved in the show and both BVA and BEVA were integral in selecting topics and speakers for the comprehensive lecture stream, which will sit alongside the Royal Veterinary College’s (RVC’s) extensive equine programme developed by Professor Josh Slater at the RVC, which is now in its second year.

The two lecture streams will enable the mixed practitioner to learn new equine skills and knowledge to take back to their practice and subjects include:

Wound management in the field – Dr Patrick Pollock BVMS CertES (Soft Tissue) DipECVS FHEA MRCVS, European and RCVS Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery and Senior Lecturer in Equine Surgery, Weipers Centre Equine Hospital, Glasgow Veterinary School

Vaccinations – myths explained – Professor Josh Slater BVM&S PhD DipECEIM MRCVS, Professor in Equine Clinical Studies, Royal Veterinary College

The difficult laminitis case – Andy Fiske Jackson BVSc MVetMed Dipl.ECVS MRCVS, Lecturer in Equine Surgery, Clinical Sciences and Services, Royal Veterinary College

The itchy horse – Sue Paterson MA VetMB DVD DipECVD MRCVS, Veterinary Dermatologist, Rutland House Referral Hospital, St Helens, Merseyside

John Blackwell, BVA President, says: “BVA is delighted to be partnering with our colleagues at BEVA to bring such an innovative and engaging equine programme to the London Vet Show. It has been a pleasure to work with BEVA in selecting the topics and speakers for this programme and both organisations hope that equine and mixed practice vets will take away new skills and knowledge that will help them deliver improved care back in their practices.”

Andrew Harrison, BEVA president, adds: “This is a great opportunity for vets from mixed practice to catch up on some high quality equine CPD.  The lecturers are both experts in their fields and engaging speakers and the joint stream will add an exciting new facet to BEVA’s extensive CPD offering.”
