Somerset animal hospital Cave Veterinary Specialists has appointed globe-trotting diagnostic imager Lynn Matthews to its growing team.

Lynn, who is currently studying for her second certificate in diagnostic imaging, joins the Linnaeus-owned practice after developing her skills in a near-10-year spell working in Hong Kong and South Africa.

Lynn plans to expand the imaging offered at Cave by incorporating the latest advances in the field; collaborating with other imaging centres and working with the new MRI machine, which is due to arrive at the practice in May.

She graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2003, before roles at Wood Green Animal Shelter; fellow Linnaeus practice Davies Veterinary Specialists and Vets Now, where she worked as an emergency vet based at the PDSA.

Lynn said: “The plan is for me to be involved in the running of the CT scanner and new MRI when it arrives later this year; in addition to performing ultrasounds, aspirates and tru-cut biopsies.

“It is great to work with all these modalities as they all have their unique advantages and benefits, which complement each other.

“It’s a fantastic team at Cave, a very supportive environment and my dream job! When I was looking for work in the area, I had interviews and offers but they just didn’t feel right. I contacted Cave directly, went to visit and it has gone from there.”

Prior to moving back to England, Lynn worked at the Phoenix Animal Clinic in Hong Kong under the tutelage of the head of the Hong Kong Veterinary Association, Tom Mangan, where she developed her interest in imaging.

She moved to South Africa to live in Cape Town in 2015, where she set up her own mobile imaging business. This initially offered services to one practice, eventually growing to 10 practices across the city.
