One of the South West’s leading animal hospitals is launching a novel tree planting initiative to help fight climate change.

Linnaeus-owned Cave Veterinary Specialists, near Wellington, Somerset, has vowed to plant a tree for every veterinary practice which refers a case to them.

Cave will also plant another tree for every ten further cases that practice subsequently sends their way throughout 2022, which could see them planting a tree for every day of the year.

Cave is teaming up with the national, not-for-profit online organisation eForests which is overseeing the planting for the practice.

Cave’s hospital director Claire Lawrence said: “It’s an exciting new project and we’re really looking forward to seeing it literally grow in the year ahead.

“It’s very user-friendly and efficient. We donate money to them to buy the trees and they are then given free of charge to charities, trusts and landowners for projects they’re working on.

“They have projects running all over the UK and it’s something we’re proud to be involved with.

“We really think we are barking up the right tree with this and believe our clients will embrace it too, especially knowing that their helping with reforestation and climate control.”

eForests was set up in 2006 to help combat climate change and create and restore woodlands across the country.

It is run almost entirely by volunteers and all profits help fund the tree planting projects nationwide.

The tree-planting scheme partners with Cave’s continuing commitment to reducing its emissions and cutting costs and waste.

It has signed up to the acclaimed Investors in the Environment (iiE) initiative, a national accreditation scheme, designed to help organisations and businesses reduce their impact on the environment and be recognised for their green credentials.

Cave recently received a silver award from the iiE and the practice is now upping its efforts in a bid to secure the prestigious green standard which would place it at the pinnacle of environmental awareness and conservation.

Cave offers comprehensive, specialist-led services in anaesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedic surgery and soft tissue surgery.
