Charitable Runcorn Vets Walk Five Million Steps For Walk All Over Cancer Challenge

Kind-hearted staff at a leading animal hospital in the North West marched more than five million steps last month to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
The mammoth ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ challenge saw a 16-strong team from Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) in Runcorn, Cheshire, completing 10,000 steps every day during March.
Some of the NWVS team even had an extra spring in their step and surpassed the daily target to help the fund-raising effort smash through the five million mark.
Delighted organiser Adele Rogers said: “The team here at NWVS are amazing and wanted to give something back while getting fit ourselves.
“We decided to take on this Walk All Over Cancer challenge to help raise awareness and funds for such a good cause.
“Sadly, a lot of us have been affected by cancer and all have a story to tell so we decided to do this in memory of all the loved ones that we have lost and to help build a more promising future through cancer research.”
Dylan Payne, an intern at NWVS, was one of the team with a personal incentive to take on the challenge.
Dylan said: “My dad has recently recovered from cancer after undergoing surgery and radiotherapy so I was very keen to take part.
“So many members of my family have also been treated over the years which is why I’m sure very thankful for the treatment options made available by extensive research and development.”
The successful treatment for Dylan’s dad meant he was able to celebrate the birth of his granddaughter on March 23, complete with a happy photograph to celebrate the occasion.
The NWVS team, based at Ashville Point, Sutton Weaver, Runcorn raised £2,171 for Cancer Research UK.
Northwest Veterinary Specialists offers multi-disciplinary care in anaesthesia and analgesia, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedic surgery, soft tissue surgery and veterinary physiotherapy.
