A Veterinary centre with six practices across Kent and East Sussex has been awarded hospital status by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

Cinque Ports Vets, which has surgeries in Ashford, Hawkhurst, Lydd, Rye, Tenterden and Wye, achieved the prestigious status – the highest standard of accreditation a veterinary practice can achieve – following a number of assessments of its Kingsnorth branch, in Ashford, by RCVS assessors.

During the assessments, the practice and team members had to meet stringent standards during a rigorous examination of its premises and facilities.

This included ensuring a range of diagnostic facilities are provided and that clinical standards to include hygiene, legal standards and health and safety are maintained to the highest standard. The practice also has to ensure staff are on the premises around the clock providing 24-hour care for hospitalised patients.

The newly-titled animal hospital is one of around just seven per cent of small animal veterinary service providers across the UK to have achieved such lofty status.

Sharon Marsh, Clinical Director of Cinque Ports Vets, said: “Everyone at Cinque Ports is absolutely delighted to have achieved hospital status. We have a real team ethos here and it was certainly a team effort to reach the very high standards expected by the RCVS assessors to gain such accreditation.

“We hope this will give further confidence to all our existing clients and also show people who may be looking for a new veterinary practice that Cinque Ports Vets provides the very highest possible standard of care to our patients.

“We also recently obtained official gold level accreditation from International Cat Care (iCatCare) for our commitment to providing cat-friendly care to our feline patients and their owners. Our hospital offers a separate cat-friendly waiting area, as well as a separate feline hospital ward, to help ensure the stress of visiting the vets is kept to a minimum.”

Cinque Ports Vets, originated from a traditional mixed practice in Rye, East Sussex, in 1930 and has grown across Kent and Sussex over the past 87 years.

Now part of the Linnaeus Group, its Kingsnorth hospital offers a wide range of services including all general small animal treatments, as well as endoscopy, echocardiography and cardiology consultations, pet laser therapy and a range of in house laboratory facilities.
