Dechra Adds Feline Hyperthyroidism To Endocrine App
Dechra, the expert in endocrinology, has extended the range of information available on its popular Endocrine app with the addition of comprehensive material on feline hyperthyroidism.
Aiming to support vets in the diagnosis and monitoring of feline hyperthyroidism, the new feline hyperthyroidism section of the app features information on diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and support available from Dechra. It contains guidance on interpretation of blood test results and dosing with Felimazole, including the new Felimazole Oral Solution.
Precise dosing is important in feline hyperthyroidism as it enables vets to control T4 within the lower half of the reference range, avoiding iatrogenic hypothyroidism and optimising management of the condition. Felimazole Oral Solution is honey flavoured and contains thiamazole as its active ingredient. It has a syringe graduated in 0.25 mg increments enabling accurate dosing, which helps avoid over- and under-medication.
Dechra’s Endocrine app consists of extensive information to help vets diagnose and manage the endocrine disorders Addison’s disease (hypoadrenocorticism) in dogs, canine Cushing’s syndrome and now feline hyperthyroidism. The handy app is the ultimate tool for busy veterinary professionals and provides extensive resources to help vets better understand endocrinology and stay up-to-date with the latest information. It utilises data from the Royal Veterinary College’s VetCompass database which enables vets to stay ahead of the latest advancements in veterinary endocrinology.
“Consistent management and accurate treatment is key to enabling cats with feline hyperthyroidism to lead long and healthy lives,” comments Thomas Johnson, Dechra companion animal brand manager. “The new feline hyperthyroidism information on Dechra’s Endocrine app will enable Dechra to provide vets with a one stop shop for comprehensive endocrinology support, enhancing the company’s position as an expert in endocrinology.”
Felimazole is available in tablet and oral solution formulations, offering the flexibility of either a solution or tablets to allow vets to customise treatment to suit their patients’ requirements and accommodate owners’ preferences.
