#Dignipetsbug Competition Highlights Receptionist Support At BVRA Congress
be highlighting the vital role of veterinary receptionists at the BVRA Congress on 26th September at St Johns Hotel in Solihull. With new resources, expert support and a fun #Dignipetsbug competition, the team aims to recognise the pressures receptionists face in supporting clients — particularly around sensitive issues such as end-of-life care — and to provide them with tools to carry out their role with confidence.
As part of this, delegates to BVRA Congress can visit the Dignipets stand to talk with the team about the challenges of reception work, and access support on end-of-life care and client communication. They can also pick up a ‘Dignibug’ - a Rainbow Bug created as a small, heartfelt tribute to pet bereavement - and enter a prize competition by sharing a photo on social media using #Dignipetsbug.
Recognising the unique pressures of the role, Dignipets works with the British Veterinary Receptionist Association (BVRA) to provide tailored information and resources. Dignipets’ Clinical Director, Dr Maja Redfern DrMedVet CHPV MRCVS, has created a series of new resources, designed specifically to help reception teams to navigate conversations around pet loss, grief and supporting colleagues.
Topics cover ‘Self-care and your team’, which offers practical advice on looking after yourself and supporting colleagues; ‘Children and pet loss’ includes gentle guidance to help families navigate grief; and ‘How can we honour our pets?’ looks at meaningful ways to celebrate the lives and memories of beloved animals. These are free to BVRA members and also available on the Dignipets Colleague Login portal.
Dr Vicki Adams, Chief Executive of the Animal Cancer Trust, will also join the stand to share educational resources on cancer diagnosis and treatment, alongside guidance on supporting clients through pet loss and bereavement — further strengthening the toolkit available to reception teams.
Merel Taal, MRCVS DVM CHPV, Founder and Director at Dignipets, said:
“Veterinary receptionists are often the unsung heroes of practice life. They are the first voice clients hear and often the last person they see when saying goodbye to a beloved pet. That emotional weight can be immense, which is why we believe in equipping them with training, resources and support to carry out their role with confidence and compassion.”
Delegates to BVRA Congress are encouraged to visit the Dignipets stand to explore these resources, meet the team, and celebrate the contribution of receptionists in the lead-up to Veterinary Receptionists Appreciation Day.
