Dr Mel Fuller, CEO of The Pet Vet has been recognised as one of The LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders for 2026.

The programme was created by private equity investor LDC, part of Lloyds Banking Group, in partnership with The Times. Since 2018, it has celebrated the ambition and achievements of hundreds of exceptional entrepreneurs. The leaders featured are driven by an appetite for growth that is helping to build stronger, more sustainable businesses and a more competitive UK economy.

About The Pet Vet & Dr Mel Fuller

The Pet Vet is an independent, family-owned veterinary group, with a nationwide presence. Established in 2011 by Founder & Chairman Dr Rob Jones MRCVS, the organisation was built with a clear purpose: to create a thriving environment for colleagues and, in doing so, deliver the highest quality veterinary care and customer experience.

Mel joined The Pet Vet in 2021, with the brief to use her experience from outside the veterinary sector to think and do things differently. Whilst keeping Rob’s founding principles firmly at its heart, Mel has evolved The Pet Vet, ensuring that progress is always built around its people. Her experience, fresh perspective and commitment to continuous improvement have helped the business balance continuity with change – protecting the culture and values that define The Pet Vet while building the leadership, capability and confidence to deliver impressive growth.

Today, The Pet Vet is not only larger, but stronger and more sophisticated in how it operates. Although The Pet Vet is a group of surgeries, each surgery is empowered to be independent to meet the needs of their local community. The surgeries are supported by a small central services unit that handles the core administrative and maintenance tasks, enabling the surgery teams to focus on what they do best: caring for their pets and owners.

The surgeries are large and purpose-built, so they have become centers of excellence in GP services, whilst also offering advanced treatments and diagnostics, as an alternative to referral hospitals. Being embedded within a community means being available at weekends, in the evenings, for overnight care, for home consultations, and for charities. Creating a thriving working environment for colleagues means providing flexible work patterns, funding advanced qualifications, tailoring career pathways and creating benefits packages that are meaningful to everyone. And being progressive means embracing fresh thinking and drawing inspiration from within and outside the veterinary sector, to meet the changing needs of its colleagues, customers, pets, communities and governance commitments.

Central to The Pet Vet’s ongoing evolution is Mel’s determination to grow without losing the character and values that define the organisation. The business retains the hands-on, personal approach and entrepreneurial spirit of a family-owned organisation, ensuring that colleagues have a voice to share ideas, challenge convention and play an active role in shaping future business investments – bringing The Pet Vet’s ‘better every day’ value to life in a meaningful and practical way.

The result is a business that has developed with purpose: larger, stronger and more ambitious, yet recognisably the same caring, independent and family-owned organisation at heart.

Dr Mel Fuller, CEO of The Pet Vet says: “I’m incredibly proud to receive this recognition, which I accept on behalf of all my colleagues. What we have built together is very special and our growth is a shared ambition, and never at the expense of why we’re here: to deliver outstanding clinical care and customer service, and to create a place where our teams can do their very best work. I’m hugely proud of who we are, what we do, and how far we’ve come - but I’m just as excited about where we’re going as I truly believe the best is yet to come.”

We’re always on the lookout for the very best people to join our clinical and non-clinical teams. If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and want to be part of our independent, family-owned group, browse our latest opportunities here: https://www.thepetvet.co.uk/careers/vacancies/
