A leading West Midlands veterinary referral centre has appointed a new hospital director.

Fabienne Mann has taken the lead role at West Midlands Veterinary Referrals (WMR) in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, capping a remarkable career journey at the Linnaeus-owned centre.

Fabienne’s rapid rise to hospital director at WMR comes just two years after joining the team as a senior receptionist.

After starting her career in the veterinary industry as a receptionist and then client care manager at a small first opinion practice in 2012, she then moved into customer service roles focusing on coaching and developing for a number of years before a move back to the vet world and joining WMR in November 2020.

Fabienne said: “It has been quite a journey since I joined West Midlands Referrals just over two years ago.

“I joined as a senior receptionist, progressing to head receptionist shortly after, before taking on the role of practice manager in September 2021.

“I am really excited to take on the additional responsibility that comes with being appointed as hospital director and I’m looking forward to helping shape the future of West Midland Referrals along with amazing team we have here.

“The role will also allow me to utilise the coaching and leadership skills I have developed over the years in guiding the practice’s leadership team and overseeing the day-to-day work here.

“One of my favourite parts about working for Linnaeus is having that support with my career which enables me to develop myself and this new position is a great example of that. Mind you, seeing a cuddly puppy or a sassy cat doesn't go amiss either!”

As for her rapid ascent to the leadership team at WMR, Fabienne encouraged anyone within the industry with ambitions to further their career to grasp opportunities to grow.

She said: “If I had any advice, it would be to be yourself and to be honest. Don't try to hide any short comings or try to pretend you know all the answers.

“Teams respect you being open with them and it allows you to get the best from your team. Use any knowledge gaps as opportunities to learn and grow with your team.

“I would also encourage people to have an interest in your business and get involved in all aspects of it. You don't have to take over or change anything but having an interest and an understanding allows you to know what others are going through and be able to relate to them.”

Outside of work, Fabienne and her partner foster kittens for a local charity, as well as being kept busy by their own four resident cats.

WMR provides a wide range of high standard veterinary services delivered by experienced clinicians and supported by state-of-the-art facilities to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment.
