A leading Yorkshire vets will create five new jobs after investing £200,000 in a new practice in Leeds.

Calder Vets, which has 12 practices across the county, is opening its 13th site in Selby Road, Halton in July.

Work has already started on the practice, which will feature two consultation rooms, a digital x-ray suite, separate dog and cat waiting areas, dental treatment and in-house laboratory facilities.

The practice will be able to carry out operations on-site and will also be applying for silver cat-friendly accreditation, a scheme developed by the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) to encourage best practice in caring for cats.

To achieve the accreditation, the practice will appoint a cat advocate, offer feline-friendly cages and install veterinary equipment specifically for treating cats.

Tracy Hemingway, practice manager at Calder Vets, said: “It’s really important to us to be a part of the communities we serve, so this is a perfect location for us in the heart of Halton.

“We already have a well-established base of clients in the Leeds area so it will be much easier to serve them once the new practice opens.

“We’ll be creating five jobs at the practice initially and we’ll have the capacity to grow this number in the future.

“We’re delighted to be continually investing in the community as we continue to grow.”

Calder Vets has practices in Dewsbury, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Horbury, Tingley, Denby Dale, Mirfield, Sandal, Brighouse, Heckmondwike, Penistone and Waterloo. For more information, visit www.caldervets.co.uk.
