Free Purina Institute Event Explores Latest Advances In Canine And Feline GI And Infectious Disease Management
Veterinary professionals can explore the latest science and clinical approaches to managing gastrointestinal, parasitic and infectious diseases in dogs and cats at The Purina Institute Microbiome Forum Virtual Event 2026, taking place on 18–19 November 2026, from 15:00–18:30 GMT / 16:00–19:30 CET.
Bringing together leading experts in veterinary gastroenterology, parasitology, nutrition and infectious diseases, the free CPD event takes place online over two half-day sessions and will feature presentations and panel discussions offering practical, evidence-based guidance to support clinical decision-making and deepen understanding of the role of the microbiome and nutrition in patient care.
Canine parasitic diseases will be under the spotlight, with Meriam Saleh of Texas A&M University and Kathrin Buschof Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich providing an in-depth review of the pathophysiology of giardiasis as well as practical information to help manage challenging cases. Canine schistosomiasis is also on the agenda, with Kathleen Aicher of Texas A&M University examining the distribution, transmission, diagnosis and treatment of this important emerging parasitic infection.
Dietary fibre and gastrointestinal health will be explored in sessions led by Maryanne Murphy of the University of Tennessee and Júlia Guazzelli Pezzali of Kansas State University, including the evidence-based selection of fibre to improve clinical outcomes. An expert panel will round off the canine programme by discussing how parasitology, nutrition and gastroenterology can be integrated into approaches to canine GI health.
Samantha Taylor and Petra Černá, both RCVS Recognised Specialists in Feline Medicine, will provide updates on the diagnosis and treatment of feline infectious peritonitis, including comorbidities and coinfections that complicate case management. Jody Gookin of North Carolina State University will also explore approaches to diagnosing and managing feline trichomonosis, a common and often frustrating cause of feline colitis.
Fabio Procoli of Ospedale Veterinario Portoni Rossi AniCura in Bologna and Panagiotis Xenoulis of the University of Thessaly will explore the diagnosis and interpretation of feline dysbiosis and chronic enteropathy, alongside therapeutic approaches to managing these conditions. The feline medicine experts will also come together for a panel discussion on opportunities to advance the management of infectious and gastrointestinal disorders in cats.
Veterinary professionals can attend the live online event or watch later on demand to access free CPD in a non-product-promotional learning environment. Translations will be available during the live event.
