GLOBE-TROTTING VET ARRIVES AT SOUTHFIELDS VETERINARY SPECIALISTS

Charity may begin at home but it’s taken top vet Jennifer Raj all around the world helping animals in need.

The new recruit at Essex referral centre Southfields Veterinary Specialists has carried out voluntary veterinary work in India, Thailand and Portugal.

Added to this, she has also worked for a charity animal clinic in Malaysia, so arrives at Southfields as a highly qualified and much-travelled specialist.

Jennifer explained: “I have this genuine compassion for animals which inspired me to become a vet and to carry out the charity work which is like a hobby for me.

“Working in all those different countries was an amazing experience for me and a lot of my regular clients enjoy hearing all about my travels.

“I must have treated thousands and thousands of animals over the years while working in Malaysia, Thailand, India and Portugal.”

Now Jennifer’s main focus is her new role at Southfields, where she will be specialising in her favourite discipline of internal medicine, with a particular interest in haematology and emergency medicine.

She joins having spent the past five years working and undergoing specialist training in small animal internal medicine. 

Jennifer is excited by the switch, saying: “I’m really looking forward to working within such a friendly and dynamic team working in a state-of-the-art environment where I can use my expertise to the full.”

Daniel Hogan, operations manager at Southfields, which is part of the Linnaeus Group and situated in Laindon, welcomed Jennifer on board. He said: “We are always seeking to attract the best possible talent to Southfields, so Jennifer’s arrival is very welcome.

“She has a true passion and talent for animal care. It’s her career and it’s her hobby. When she’s not working, she’s often volunteering which demonstrates her total commitment to caring for animals.”

Southfields’ Head of Internal Medicine Chris Scudder added: “The whole team here is really looking forward to working with Jennifer. She comes highly recommended and highly motivated and will be a tremendous addition for us.”

Jennifer has a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Royal Veterinary College, University of London and a first-class Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Conservation Medicine from the University of Liverpool.
