Gold Cat Award Means Fife Vets 'feline Fine'
A popular small animal hospital in Fife has been hailed as the “purr-fect” place for cats after earning a prestigious award for its feline care.
Linnaeus-owned St Clair Veterinary Group in Kirkcaldy, Fife, has been awarded gold accreditation as a cat-friendly clinic by International Cat Care (ICC), formerly known as the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM), which looks to improve the welfare of cats at veterinary practices.
St Clair’s cat advocate Susan Quinn said the coveted award was a fantastic achievement by the team, which demonstrates the practice’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the best care and treatment options for feline patients.
Susan said: “We are proud to be an ISFM gold-level cat-friendly clinic, which is an independent recognition of our commitment to our feline patients here at St Clair.
“We have introduced a range of new feline-friendly facilities such as large kennels for hospitalised patients, a full refurbishment of our cat ward as well as our cat only waiting and consult rooms.
“Cats can experience stress during visits to their vets due to a rage of things from unfamiliar environments and noises to handling. Our goal was to be able to provide the best possible experience for them and to create a stress-free environment for both cats and their owners.”
The ISFM set up the cat-friendly clinic programme to help and encourage veterinary hospitals and practices to make cats’ visits less stressful and to cater for feline patients specifically within clinics.
The aim is to ensure the delivery of a much better experience for both cats and their owners with accredited clinics earning bronze, silver or a prestigious gold award.
Multi-award-winning St Clair has invested significant time and effort into becoming the cream of the crop.
St Clair’s clinical nursing manager, Pauline Smith said: “We have concentrated on making our practices as user friendly as possible for our feline patients from the moment they arrive to the moment they are discharged.
“We have introduced low level noise in the cat ward to provide our cat patients with a more relaxed and hopefully stress-free visit to our practice.
“We are finding our cats are more tolerant of exams and procedures including blood sampling and blood pressure.
“All our team members are now aware of us being a cat-friendly practice and strive to make every experience as stress-free as possible for all our feline visitors.”
