Yorkshire-born vet Anna Gaughan, who has been appointed clinical director at Linnaeus-owned Calder Vets, which has 10 practices across the South and West of the county.

One of Yorkshire’s leading vet groups has appointed a new clinical director to oversee its 10 surgeries across the county.
Linnaeus-owned Calder Vets has promoted Anna Gaughan to the senior role and the Yorkshire-born advanced practitioner is keen to help the vets continue to make a real difference to their patients.
Anna, who joined Calder Vets in 2017 and was previously lead vet, said offering ‘gold standard’ care, developing the business and the wellbeing of staff are her three key objectives.
She explained: “As clinical director, I take overall responsibility for Calder and the team here.
“I also have a fantastic senior leadership team who will help me keep things running efficiently and effectively.
“My key tasks are to ensure we are providing the best possible client journey, alongside gold standard clinical care for our patients, whilst ensuring our team are happy and engaged in their roles.
“One of my key areas of focus will be team wellbeing. The veterinary industry is currently a challenging environment and the teams’ happiness and mental health are a priority.
“I don’t have all the answers yet but I am determined to do what I can to drive a positive workplace and ensure all associates are happy here.”
Anna’s career progression at Calder is a clear example of the opportunities available for staff to progress and succeed at the Linnaeus-owned group.
She added: “I joined Calder in 2017 as the main vet for the Penistone clinic. Having settled in quickly, I took my first steps into management at the end of 2018 when I became a lead vet.
“I enjoyed four happy years as a member of the senior leadership team at Calder before accepting the role of clinical director.
“I’m now looking forward to learning and understanding as much as I can about how the business runs behind the scenes.
“As lead vet for four years, I have been very engaged with clinical development and changes throughout the sites.
“Now my new role will allow me to develop knowledge in strategic planning, budgeting and the overall development of the business.”
Anna graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2004 and began her Veterinary Career in mixed practice in South Yorkshire.
She moved to a role in emergency and critical care and then enjoyed locum work while touring the UK.
Yorkshire was always calling her though, as Anna explained: “I realised my heart was in my home county and I have been a full-time first opinion vet here in Yorkshire for the last 12 years.
“Always keen to advance my development, I undertook the Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice in medicine, which I finished in 2018.
“Away from work I enjoy the outdoors, especially walking the dog or spending time in the garden. I am a member of a local running club and I also enjoy winter sports such as skiing.”
